Superstar Rajinikanth's second daughter Soundarya married her boyfriend Ashwin Ramkumar in a gala affair held in Chennai on Friday.

The rituals were performed at the city's Rani Meyyammai and Raja Muttiah hall around 7 am and attended by over 500 guests, including top political leaders and film stars.

Ashwin arrived in style, dressed in panchakacham while Soundarya looked stunning in a red nine-yard sari. As the couple exchanged the sacred vows, the atmosphere became charged and Rajini got emotional while giving his daughter away.

With the superstar and his wife personally taking care of every detail, the wedding was every bit the big fat wedding it was speculated to be. Clad in a white shirt and dhoti, Rajinikanth was seen personally welcoming the guests.

Soundarya and Ashwin have been together for more than a year now. They are said to have met through common family friends. Rajinikanth and Ashwin's father have known each other for years. His family is in the construction business.

The wedding was attended among others by Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, MDMK leader Vaiko, filmmaker Mani Ratnam, Rajini's mentor and director K. Balachander, actor Kamal Haasan, Praja Rajyam Party president Chiranjeevi, actor Sridevi and husband Boney Kapoor.

Actor Abhishek Bachchan and wife Aishwarya arrived for the lavish wedding reception in the evening, which had a guestlist of around 1,000 people.

Soundarya and Ashwin had hosted a party for close friends and relatives on Thursday.
