Superstar Rajinikanth personally paid his final respects after learning of the passing of legendary filmmaker and screenwriter K. Bhagyaraj. Later, he expressed his grief on X, writing, "The passing of my dear friend and a wonderful human being, K. Bhagyaraj, has caused me immense sorrow."

Over nearly five decades in Tamil cinema, Rajinikanth and K. Bhagyaraj shared a close friendship that produced many unforgettable memories.

Their Friendship Began During 16 Vayathinile

While working as director Bharathiraja's assistant director, K. Bhagyaraj reportedly helped Rajinikanth with the pronunciation of Tamil dialogues during the shooting of 16 Vayathinile. That meeting marked the beginning of a lifelong friendship between the two legends.

Naan Sigappu Manithan – Rajinikanth's Persuasion

In the 1985 film Naan Sigappu Manithan, K. Bhagyaraj played a significant role alongside Rajinikanth.

Speaking at a later event, Bhagyaraj recalled:

"I initially hesitated to accept the role because I felt my character might receive more appreciation than Rajinikanth's. However, Rajini insisted that I was the right person for the role. It was only because of his persuasion that I agreed to do the film."

A Special Appearance in Anbulla Rajinikanth

Bhagyaraj made a memorable special comedic appearance in the 1984 film Anbulla Rajinikanth. Though brief, the sequence remains one of the cherished on-screen moments shared by the two stars.

Memories Shared at the Parijatham Audio Launch

Rajinikanth attended the audio launch of Bhagyaraj's film Parijatham as the chief guest, where he fondly recalled several memorable incidents from their friendship.

He revealed that during a financially difficult phase in his life, Bhagyaraj had invited him to make a special appearance in Vettiya Madichu Kattu. Unfortunately, circumstances prevented him from accepting the offer, something Rajinikanth said he still regrets.

At the same event, since Rajinikanth's birthday fell the following day, Bhagyaraj surprised him by cutting a birthday cake on stage a day in advance. The heartfelt gesture received a thunderous applause from the audience.

Celebrating Bhagyaraj's 50-Year Journey in Cinema

Rajinikanth was also present at the celebration marking K. Bhagyaraj's 50 years in the film industry. During his speech, he praised Bhagyaraj's exceptional storytelling, screenplay writing, and remarkable contributions to Tamil cinema.

"Screenwriters like Bhagyaraj are rare," Rajinikanth remarked, reflecting the immense respect and admiration he had for his longtime friend.

A Friendship That Will Be Remembered Forever

Though K. Bhagyaraj is no longer with us, the films he created and the unforgettable moments he shared with Rajinikanth will continue to live on in the hearts of Tamil cinema lovers. Their friendship, built on mutual respect, admiration, and affection over nearly five decades, remains one of the most cherished relationships in the history of Tamil cinema.
