The recent meeting between Superstar Rajinikanth and the newly elected office-bearers of the South Indian Film Writers’ Association became a special moment for Tamil cinema.

The delegation was led by the Association’s President, Director Cheran, along with General Secretary Pattukkottai Prabhakar, Treasurer Director R. Sundarrajan and other office-bearers and executive committee members.

As part of their interaction with leading personalities from the Tamil film industry, the writers met Rajinikanth and discussed the present situation and concerns of story writers. Rajinikanth reportedly shared his views and advice on how issues affecting writers could be discussed and addressed for the benefit of everyone.

Rajinikanth Joins as a Writer

The meeting became even more significant when the Association recalled Rajinikanth’s own contribution as a story writer.

Rajinikanth has been associated with the stories of films including Valli and Baba. The office-bearers therefore invited him to become a member of the South Indian Film Writers’ Association.

Rajinikanth accepted the invitation.

It was a meaningful moment: one of Indian cinema’s biggest stars agreeing to be associated with the writers’ organisation not as a Superstar, but also as a fellow writer.

But One Meeting Photograph Stirred Old Emotions

Among those present was Director R. Sundarrajan, the Association’s Treasurer.

For many Rajinikanth fans, seeing him with Thalaivar brought back memories of the controversy surrounding Rajinikanth’s political entry.

During an AIADMK-related political campaign, R. Sundarrajan had made remarks about Rajinikanth’s age, health and even the possibility of his death. Those comments deeply hurt many fans.

Political criticism is normal. Disagreements are part of politics.

But for fans, criticism about a person’s health and life crossed a line.

That is why some fans found it difficult to accept seeing R. Sundarrajan meeting Rajinikanth today.

Fans Remember. Thalaivar Moves On.

This is perhaps where fans and their Thalaivar are different.

Fans remember every insult and every painful word spoken against Rajinikanth because their connection with him is emotional and deeply personal.

But Rajinikanth has spent decades facing criticism, opposition and controversies. Over the years, he has repeatedly shown an ability to move forward rather than carry old anger.

Perhaps he has not forgotten the past. But moving on does not always mean forgetting.

The writers came to meet him for a purpose—to discuss the welfare and future of writers. Rajinikanth chose to respond to that purpose.

Fans may still feel hurt by what was said in the past, and those emotions are understandable.

But Thalaivar, once again, appears to have chosen his own path.
