A drama festival named 'Nianivalaigal' was organized by the Nadigar Sangam from August 15, 2009. The closing ceremony of the this drama festival was graced by the presence of Superstar Rajinikanth.

Speaking at the valedictory of Ninaivalaigal, a drama festival organised by the ‘Nadigar Sangam’ in Chennai, he said, “no one can forget the efforts made by Vijayakanth, Sarath and Radha Ravi to protect the building from debts.â€Â

Stating that the heritage edifice was built by MGR and Sivaji Ganesan, the top actor said the office bearers of the association should come forward to utilise the vacant space inside the premises.

“We have 18 grounds of space here. We should not keep it idle. I am here to do my best to the association. We would also approach the Chief Minister. Let us build an auditorium here,â€Â he said.

Rajinikanth also expressed his grief that Drama actors are only taught how to act but not how to make money. 

Earlier, the Superstar honoured veterans like Anjali Devi and M N Rajam. Anjali Devi was the first woman president of the ‘Nadigar Sangam’ while Rajam was the first woman member of the association.
