Superstar Rajinikanth, the calling card of Tamil film industry, will be honoured with the second-highest civilian award of the country, Padma Vibhushan. The award is given to people with 'exceptional and distinguished service' in their respective fields.
The veteran actor, who has acted in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and English films, will receive the award for his contribution in the field of arts.
The recipients of the Padma Vibhushan Awards are announced every year on Republic Day (January 26). This year, along with the renowned actor many other personalities like Yamini Krishnamurthi, Ramoji Rao and Viswanathan Shanta will receive the prestigious civilian award.
Rajinikanth was honoured with Padma Bhushan by the Government Of India in the year 2000. Though Rajinikanth acts predominantly in Tamil, the actor has fans all over the world. He has a huge fan following in Japan, Malaysia and Singapore.
Rajinikanth's daughters Aishwaryaa and Soundarya took to Twitter to share their excitement. Superstar Rajinikanth tweeted that he is honoured for being awarded the Padma Vibhushan.
