Sivaji - Box Office Reports

Box office Flash 20: Sivaji TN Business & Mayiladuthurai Record!

Date : 24/07/07

To understand the box office record Sivaji is creating – first u have to understand how it is sold to distributors and again to theatres. (Others can only DREAM about this)

Sivaji price vs Chandramukhi price

Since Chandramukhi was the only movie which was sold at exhorbitant price previously, we take Chandramukhi as comparative scale.

Sivaji was sold double the price as that of Chandramukhi. Take instance Mercury Pictures bought Chandramukhi in Trichy Tanjavur (TT area) for 2.75 crores. (A record!!)

Trichy Thanjavur rate: Appadiyov!!

But Sivaji was bought by same Mercury for TT area for 5.25 crores (Again Record!!) (For Chennai city it is 6.5 crores and Abirami Ramanathan already got back the investment and now reaping the profits. Just u can calculate yourself accordingly and figure out the amount Sivaji has grossed in TN so far.)

So, imagine what would be the rate to theatres? It is almost double that of CM. This is the case all over Tamil Nadu.

Why should we reduce the rate?

When enquired why many theatres are not willing to reduce the ticket rates, the answer is: Why should they reduce while the movie is running fair? Once the viewership reduces, they will automatically cut the ticket price.

After 40 days – it is expected all theatres will reduce the rate to sustain the audience.

A Happy news is all of the theatres recovered the cost in TT area and now purely enjoying the profit.

Now let's see the Sivaji business details in Mayiladuthurai – Rathna

The theatre has seating capacity of 650 approximately.

The nearest release centre for this theatre is Karaikkal which is 35 kms long.

Villains for Mayiladuthurai Rathna

But now, Sivaji is released in new centres like Sirkazhi, Thiruthuraipoondi, Nagapattinam too. The radius from Mayiladuthurai is very less to all these towns.

Despite this, Sivaji is running successfully for the consecutive 39th day. And u know in all these 39 days the ticket rates remained same as that of for 1st day: Rs.51, 41, 31. These rates are very high for a C centre like Mayiladuthurai. (Normal rate is Rs.16, 12, 10) From Tuesday (24/7/07) the rates are expected to comedown.

Sivaji beats Dr.Saravanan (Chandramukhi)

You should note that previously – there was a rule that theatres can fix their own maxi rate for tickets for first two weeks. While Chandramukhi released here they could not maintain the high rate for more than 10 days. They were forced to cut down the rate after 10th day itself. But for Sivaji the rate remained constant till today (Monday 23/7/07).Then imagine how successful Sivaji is running in this theatre.

According to theatre circles – after 15th day – only morning shows witnessed a break for 35 to 40 seats (Break means – seat unoccupied). Remaining shows are still running houseful.

Chandramukhi's total collection in this theatre was : Rs. 19 lakhs. But Sivaji – already grossed Rs. 39 lakhs.  The highest ever in Mayiladuthurai.

Stay tuned for more theatre reports from other parts of Trichy Thanjavur area.
