Mayajaal – some observations

Mayajaal Multiplex is located in East Coast Road, 50 kms away from Chennai city on the road to Mahabalipuram.

The multiplex was inaugurated in 2001. Apart from cinema screens the multiplex contains various other entertainment features which cater to a whole family including kids. Even there is shopping stores, food court etc.etc. Now they are building 4 more screens the rear side. We hope that by Pongal it will be ready.

How will be the screen?

Mayajaal Multiplex consists of 6 screen with an average capacity of 250 seats per screen. The ticket rate for Sivaji was Rs.130/-. The screens are meant for compact arrangement with superb DTS sound system. The seating was also good.

Sivaji @ Mayajaal

Last week we went there on my friends' request, who wanted to enjoy the movie there. The show was full with nearly 55% audience. Most of them were family audiences with kids including a few couples here and there.

Sivaji – a miracle here

We had a casual chat with the theatre staff there. You know, it lead to fantastic revelations. They said in Mayajaal's 7 years history they had not seen such a craze for any other movie. Also a 50% attendance of a movie here after three months of screening is a miracle here and couldn't seen for other movie. Right from the advance booking the movie has created several records here. (They admitted that Chandramukhi also had a spectacular running here. And after that,it is none other than Sivaji to have such a running)

Houseful shows for continuous onemonth in several screens

They also said for the first time they had seen Houseful shows for continuous one month in several screens in their multiplex. Also their car parking recorded a maximum number of cars in the opening two weeks. And virtually they had no pace to park cars and were struggling to accommodate the flood of cars. And two-wheelers too.

Rain of Records for Sivaji

During intermission, we went to theatre manager's room and introduced ourselves and conversed with him. Based on chat with him and other theatre staff we produce the following records Sivaji created in Mayajaal.

1) Total number of shows has crossed 950 as on 21/10/2007.

2) 350 HOUSEFUL shows were held for first two weeks and he admitted that it is an All India record.

3) Sivaji is the first movie to cross 125 days in Mayajaal's history. (Chandramukhi ran for 100 days)

4) Sivajihad maximum advance bookings and Mayajaal's website registered maximum viewership for online ticket bookings between June and July.

5) Thetotal sales in other components too shoot up and it saw the peak in the initial two weeks.

6) The shopping mall and food court registered record sales.

7) First time a movie was screened 30 shows/day in initial two weeks and weekends.

8) Sivaji'sprice was the highest ever Mayajaal bought ever since its inception from 2001.

9) Theatre circles informed that Sivaji is expected to run till Diwali - that is 147 days.Wow….what a record in this age of VCD/DVD and numerous satellite channels!!!!

10) The local people of Vettuvankeni, Nilangarai, Uththandhi and other areas of Mayajaal, who kept away themselves from this multiplex, because of exhorbitant ticket rates came here by flocks to see Sivaji with their family in intial month.

11) Though the visitors here are elite (hi-class) people, the theatre staff affirmed that the response was more or less like a Madurai or any south side theatre in intial days.

12) Kids and women thronged this multiplex to see Sivaji like ever before.

Sivaji – a guiding light

Friends, we wish to admit here that who are all associated with Sivaji sales, distribution, exhibition – all made floods of profits and now they are renovating their premises, started building new complexes, new theatres.

AVM studios and its premises is now undergoing vast change and new building are being builtin that area. Similarly Mayajaal too now building four other screens in rearside of its multiplex area. Similarly many, many made lump sum profit.

And did you notice that Pyramid Saimira Ltd which released Sivaji in many theatres in TamilNadu, Malaysia and Andhra now has emerged one of the top film distributing company. Ellam Sivaji senja majic. You know - it is now buying movies on wholesale price!! It is touted that it has purchased Ajith's Billa and Vijay's ATM for wholesale amount. The total sale of these movies comes around 45crores. Ellam Sivaji miracle. (Pls forgive that Swaminathan!!)
