கதை

நாகராஜ் மற்றும் சம்பத் இருவரும் துணி வியாபாரம் செய்து வாழ்க்கையை நடத்துபவர்கள். நாகராஜ் வியாபாரத்தில் திறமையானவன், ஆனால் பெண்கள் விஷயத்தில் பலவீனமானவன். சம்பத் எளிமையான வாழ்க்கையை விரும்பும் நல்ல மனம் கொண்ட மனிதன்.

எதிர்பாராத விதமாக சம்பத்தின் காதலி இறந்து விட, வாழ்க்கையை வெறுத்து தற்கொலை செய்ய முயற்சிக்கிறான். அவனை காப்பாற்றும் நாகராஜ், அவனுடன் சென்னைக்கு பயணம் செய்கிறான்.

அந்த பயணத்தில் சந்திக்கும் ஒரு கோயில் ஊழியரிடம் இருக்கும் பணத்தை கைப்பற்ற முயற்சிக்கும் நாகராஜ், அந்த மனிதனின் மரணத்திற்கு பிறகு பணத்தை எடுத்துக் கொள்கிறான். அதை விசாரிக்க வரும் அவரது தங்கை புவனாவை சந்திக்கும் போது, தனது குற்றத்தை மறைக்க அவளுடைய வாழ்க்கையை அழிக்கிறான்.

புவனாவை ஏமாற்றிய நாகராஜ், பின்னர் பணக்கார முதலாளியின் மகள் மனோகரியை திருமணம் செய்ய முடிவு செய்கிறான். இதனால் அதிர்ச்சியடைந்த புவனாவுக்கு ஆதரவாக நிற்கும் சம்பத், "காரணமே இல்லாத என் வாழ்க்கைக்கு நானே ஒரு காரணம் தேடிக்கிறேன்" என்று கூறி அவளை திருமணம் செய்து கொள்கிறான்.

நாகராஜ் கதாபாத்திரத்தில் சிவகுமார் மிகவும் இயல்பான நடிப்பை கொடுத்துள்ளார். வெளியில் நல்லவன் போல் தெரிந்தாலும் உள்ளே சுயநலமான மனிதனாக இருக்கும் இந்த கதாபாத்திரம், இன்றும் சமூகத்தில் காணப்படும் சில மனிதர்களை நினைவுபடுத்துகிறது.
