சிவப்பு சூரியன் – திரைப்பட விமர்சனம்

1983ஆம் ஆண்டு வெளியான சிவப்பு சூரியன், முக்தா சீனிவாசன் இயக்கத்தில் ரஜினிகாந்த், ராதா, சரிதா நடிப்பில் வெளியான ஆக்ஷன் திரைப்படம். ஆரம்பத்தில் கலவையான விமர்சனங்களைப் பெற்றாலும், படம் 100 நாட்கள் ஓடி மிதமான வெற்றியைப் பெற்றது.

ரஜினிகாந்த் இப்படத்தில் விஜய் என்ற மெர்ச்சன்ட் நேவி அதிகாரியாக நடித்துள்ளார். விடுமுறையில் வீடு திரும்பும் விஜய், தனது சகோதரி செல்வியும் அவரது கணவர் விஸ்வநாதனும் காணாமல் போயிருப்பதை அறிகிறார். அவர்களைத் தேடும் முயற்சியில் சித்ராவை சந்திக்கிறார். ராதா நடித்த சித்ரா, விஜய் மீது காதல் கொள்கிறார்.

விஜய்யின் தேடலில், விஸ்வநாதன் ஒரு ஆபத்தான குற்றவாளிக்கு எதிராக நீதிமன்றத்தில் சாட்சி அளித்ததால், அவரது கூட்டாளிகளால் கடத்தப்பட்டிருப்பது தெரிய வருகிறது. அவரை மீட்க விஜய் ஒரு கடத்தல்காரன் வேடத்தில் குற்ற உலகிற்குள் நுழைகிறார். அதன்பிறகு ஆக்ஷன், சஸ்பென்ஸ், காதல் மற்றும் குடும்ப உணர்வுகளுடன் கதை நகர்கிறது.

ஆக்ஷன் காட்சிகளில் ரஜினியின் ஸ்டைலும் வேகமும் படத்திற்கு பலம். சரிதா பேசாமல் தனது உணர்வுகளை வெளிப்படுத்தும் கதாபாத்திரத்தில் சிறப்பாக நடித்துள்ளார். ராதா காதல் காட்சிகளுக்கு அழகு சேர்க்க, ஒய். ஜி. மகேந்திரன் நகைச்சுவைக்கு துணை நிற்கிறார்.

“ஆடி முந்தானை பந்தாட”, “மிஸ்டர் மிராண்டா எதிரி வந்தான்” போன்ற பாடல்கள் படத்தின் முக்கியமான அம்சங்கள். அந்த காலகட்டத்தில் இளையராஜா முன்னணி இசையமைப்பாளராக கோலோச்சிக் கொண்டிருந்தபோதிலும், தயாரிப்பாளரும் ரஜினிகாந்தும் மீண்டும் மெல்லிசை மன்னர் எம். எஸ். விஸ்வநாதனை தேர்வு செய்தது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. இப்படத்தின் மூலம் ரஜினிகாந்த் – எம். எஸ். விஸ்வநாதன் கூட்டணி நிறைவு பெற்றது.

ரஜினிகாந்தின் ஆரம்பகால ஆக்ஷன் படங்களில் ஒன்றான சிவப்பு சூரியன், பெரிய வெற்றிப்படமாக இல்லாவிட்டாலும், 100 நாட்கள் ஓடிய படமாகவும், எம். எஸ். விஸ்வநாதனின் இசையில் ரஜினியின் கடைசி படமாகவும் நினைவில் நிற்கிறது.

Sivappu Sooriyan Movie Review

Sivappu Sooriyan, released in 1983, is an action drama directed by Muktha Srinivasan, starring Rajinikanth, Radha and Saritha. The film opened to lacklustre reviews but went on to become a moderate box-office success, completing a 100-day run.

Rajinikanth plays Vijay, a Merchant Navy officer who returns home on leave only to discover that his sister Selvi and her husband Vishwanathan are missing. His search leads him to Chitra, played by Radha, who falls in love with him. Vijay eventually discovers that Vishwanathan had testified against a dangerous criminal and has been kidnapped by the criminal's associates.

Determined to rescue his brother-in-law, Vijay enters the underworld by disguising himself as a smuggler. What follows is an entertaining mix of action, suspense, romance and family sentiment.

Rajinikanth is particularly effective in the action portions, while Saritha's silent portrayal of a troubled woman gives the film an emotional dimension. Radha adds the romantic element, while Y. G. Mahendran provides comic relief.

The songs are another attraction, particularly “Adi Munthanai Pandhada” and “Mr. Miranda Ethiri Varanda.” Interestingly, although Ilaiyaraaja was firmly established as the leading music director of the period, Rajinikanth and the producer chose to work with the legendary M. S. Viswanathan. The result was a couple of reasonably popular songs and a successful collaboration between Rajinikanth and MSV.

Sadly, this also marked the last Rajinikanth–M. S. Viswanathan combination.

Sivappu Sooriyan may not be regarded as one of Rajinikanth's landmark films, but its 100-day theatrical run, engaging action story and memorable MSV songs make it an interesting film from the Superstar's early-1980s journey.
